I began by drawing in pencil some small trees that can be seen in the background of one of my previous experiments.
They were very small and clearly showed my uncomfortable feelings towards the task at hand.
The next piece I worked on was an abstract piece with elements of cubism. This piece was already interesting so I didn't want to ruin it and therefore I changed very little.
On the line coming out I drew similar trees to the first piece, but this time I added a blurred version underneath representing the dream-like sense of surrealism that I am working with.
The final piece I worked on had two separate pieces and so I wanted to try and bring the two together.
Up until this point I had only drawn small pieces and changed very little.
I began by smudging the black piece that was already there using a pencil, removing straight lines of colour to match the water distortion from the piece I was working on.
Then I used compressed charcoal to draw a large tree next to the two original pieces that were already there.
And my final addition to the piece was a combination of compressed charcoal and regular charcoal, where I created a bush like bottom and drew trees emerging from it.
I feel that my final piece was the most successful out of my previous 2 as they showed improvement, such as growing in size and using a different media.
Here is a picture of my hand after all of the smudging and blending I did on the final drawing:
After everyone had finished drawing we worked as a group to try and create a collage on the wall using all of the different pieces of that everyone had created together.
My role in the creation was to stand further back and see how all of the pieces worked as a composition.
This was the final piece, I think it turned out well with all of the different elements working together as a large, abstract collage which ended up being taller than me. This is much larger than any scale I have previously worked with and I hope to do something like this again using only my own work.
